Making an interface panel

Making an interface Panel:
1.
You will need this file (right click and save as to download) to complete this tutorial.
Start out by creating a new 400 x 400 image. I used and RGB of R 30 G 39 B 43 for the background. Create a new layer (name this layer "panel") and change your color to an RGB of R 59 G 77 B 85 (this is just so you can see what you are about to make, the actual color will end up being black when we are done). Now click on your Rounded Rectangle Tool. Make sure in the top toolbar you have it set to Create New Shape Layer

 2.
Now all we need to do is create the Shape. I have my Radius set to 10px and you need to make sure you have the Add to Shape Area (+) active in your toolbar so we can just draw our shape with a few movements of the mouse. The first thing I did was to just drag out a main center area. Make sure you are working in your "panel" Layer.

 3.
Next I added a little shape up on the top and one on the bottom. All you need to do is drag your mouse where you want the shape to be and it will be automatically added to the main shape. And this is all done on the "panel" layer. The picture on your left here is how I drew out my shape.

 4.
The next step is to "right" click over your shape and choose "Rasterize Layer". Or you can go to Layer/Rasterize/Layer. Now it's time to run our Layer Style.
 5.
Make sure you have downloaded the style (right click and save as to download) that is required for this tutorial. Once you have it you need to load it into your styles presets so click on the Layer Styles tab (if you don't see the styles tab go to Window/Show Styles). Once you click on that click on the little arrow and choose load style. Choose the team_panel_1 style you downloaded. Now just click on the thumbnail and the style will be applied. There are actually a number of ways to load and run styles but I find this the easiest.
 6.
That's it. You should be done now. The layer styles are a very powerful new feature in Photoshop 6.0 so take some time and experiment around with different settings and colors and you will really be amazed at what you can accomplish.
This is the finished picture from this tutorial and style.
